Painting and sculpture from classical modernism to the present day
Sean Scully. Die Architektur der Farbe = The Architecture of Colour
    • Sean Scully , an Irish-born American painter has been a focus of attention in international painting for more than thirty years. He has produced a vibrant and compelling body of work that is widely collected and internationally exhibited. He has persistently held his own course and countless exhibitions all over the world testify to his creative powers and the force of his painting, which is in the tradition of Classical Modernism, ascribing particularly great importance to the expressiveness of colour itself. This book outlines and highlights the continuous development of Scully's oeuvre, from its beginnings in the late 1960s to the present day, with particular reference to the inherent structural qualities of colour itself. The internationally known works which Scully has produced since the 1980s are thereby linked with his almost unknown early works. What actually constitutes the essential links in the last four decades is the artist's exploration of colour and its particular capacity to fulfil s

    • The high-quality paintings and sculptures in the still surprisingly young Hilti Art Foundation are moving into a dignified new domicile in Vaduz, in the immediate vicinity of the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein. The unobtrusively designed “white cube” by the architectural office Morger Dettli Architekten provides an appropriate setting for the collection’s outstanding exhibits: the illustrious circle of artists represented in the first-class collection range from Georges Seurat and Paul Gauguin to Günther Uecker and Imi Knoebel. Based on choice individual works, the volume graphically demonstrates the groundbreaking currents of twentieth-century art history—from Post-Impressionism and classic modern works to concrete art. The representative publication includes concise texts that expound on the art-historical rank of the individual precious items as well as large-format full-view and detail illustrations.

Painting and sculpture from classical modernism to the present day
    • On the three levels of the exhibition building, which opened in 2015 as an extension to Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, the Hilti Art Foundation is showing thirty-six selected paintings and sculptures from its internationally renowned private collection.0The exhibition starts on the lower ground level with a section devoted to an exploration of the human form, and more specifically the female form. The depictions of women by Lehmbruck, Hodler, Picasso, Léger and Laurens show life in full bloom and at its most beautiful. In contrast, Alberto Giacometti?s sculpture 'Quatre femmes sur socle' (1950), for example, conveys a sense of tangible sensuality withdrawing into aloof immateriality.0Paintings by artists of classical modernism define the character of the first upper level. The works on display here include four paintings by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, the key representative of the artist group "Brücke"; they are from three distinct creative periods, during which the artist worked in Dresden, Berlin and Davos respectively. Further highlights in this section include paintings by Max Beckmann, such as 'Selbstbildnis mit Glaskugel' (1936), which is now surrounded by other Beckmann works from the 1920s, 30s and 40s. Works by Kandinsky, Klee, Dubuffet or Wols illustrate paths into abstraction.00Exhibition: Hilti Art Foundation/Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, Vaduz (15.12.2016-08.10.2017).
