Visionäre Entwürfe Anhand von Zeichnungen und Collagen untersucht Zukunft von gestern, welchen Einfluss der Zeitgeist auf die visionären Arbeiten der beiden Büros hatte. Die Entwürfe von Archigram, der Gruppe um Peter Cook, Ron Herron, Dennis Crompton u. a., stammen aus der Zeit der Mondlandungen, die geprägt war von der Hoffnung auf Neues. Die Projekte von Future Systems des tschechischen Architekten Jan Kaplický und David Nixon entstanden dagegen in den 1980er Jahren in der Hochzeit des Kalten Krieges mit eher düsteren Aussichten. Während Archigram eine organische Architektur für ein Überleben in einem unwirtlichen Umfeld ersann, waren die technikaffinen Entwürfe von Future Systems für ein lebensbejahendes Ambiente gedacht. Auch wenn die Mehrheit dieser Utopien nie realisiert wurde, bieten sie einen faszinierenden Einblick in die Vorbereitungen der Architekten für eine Welt, die es erst einmal nur in ihrer Vorstellung gab.

Der Neubau der EZB in Frankfurt /Main zieht nicht allein aufgrund des politischen Gewichtes seines Bauherrn national wie international große Aufmerksamkeit auf sich. Auf dem Gelände der denkmalgeschützten Großmarkthalle soll bis 2009 der Hauptsitz der EZB entstehen. Das Buch stellt alle Arbeiten des internationalen Wettbewerbs in Text und Bild vor.

Kisho Kurokawa's international projects have grown in size along with his reputation. Nearly five decades of geometrically elegant buildings, from celebrated recent ones like the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and an addition to the Van Gogh Museum, have established him as one of the field's foremost practitioners and thinkers. A co-founder in the 1960s of the influential Metabolism movement in Japan, which promoted adaptable structures, Kurokawa has recently articulated his theory of Symbiosis, in which he examines the contemporary shift from machine-age values to more organic environments. This retrospective book spans his still-vibrant career, illuminating the continuity, originality and humanity of his work. (His Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art left a gap in the central circular pavilion facing the direction of the bomb's detonation.) Covered here are less-familiar early designs and current undertakings of astounding proportions, like Zhengdong New District in China, a planned city of 15,000 people.

For some time now, major developments in highrise architecture have been primarily shaped by projects in China. But although roughly one in every three buildings that reaches a height of 100 meters or more is now built there, the highrise typology is also increasingly establishing itself in other parts of the world. European cities, for example, are pushing forward with the development of their own highrises, and more and more new towers are being built in Africa. The International Highrise Award 2020 presents thirty-one of the most exciting recently completed highrise projects worldwide that are distinguished by their sustainability, energy- and cost-efficiency and user-friendly design. Each of the projects is discussed and illustrated with photographs and design drawings.

The German Architecture Museum (DAM) Annual identifies buildings constructed in Germany as well as the most significant developments in architecture created by Germans around the world. This year's winner of the DAM Award for Architecture in Germany is Bruno Fioretti Marquez Architects for their interpretive reconstruction of the Masters' Houses, which were originally designed by Walter Gropius and László MoholyNagy to house professors at the Bauhaus art school in Dessau, Germany. The book also celebrates a number of other notable projects, such as the Abraham Building by Raimund Abraham in Hombroich and the pavilion built by Barkow Leibinger for the American Academy in Berlin, and features essays that explore the often controversial practice of interpretive reconstruction and the question of architecture and responsibility.

Die aktuelle Flüchtlingssituation ist der Ausgangspunkt für die Ausstellung im Deutschen Pavillon auf der 15. Architekturbiennale 2016 in Venedig.
