More about the book

The critical importance of clean water supplies, especially in less industrialized regions, has long been a global concern. Many health and economic issues in these countries are linked to inadequate water resources, prompting efforts to improve the situation. The Workshop on Limnology and Water Resources in the Developing Countries of Asia and the Pacific aimed to assess the current technical status in these areas. It became clear that no single policy could effectively address the diverse conditions across the region; tailored approaches are necessary. Local technical expertise is vital for developing appropriate strategies, and the following pages reveal the current extent of such skills. Readers are encouraged to identify which insights may assist their specific needs. The proceedings highlighted the importance of learning from experiences in industrially developed regions, which are often overlooked in water resource research in Asia. Contributions from a wide array of sources aim to bridge this gap, underscoring the need for a more efficient exchange of current information. Many contributors recognized the value of coordinated policies and emphasized multi-purpose water usage, which can lessen reliance on costly technology. Advocating these approaches to the public and government presents a promising avenue for future efforts.
