More about the book
The Missionary as a Cultural Interpreter examines the years of Methodist missionary activity in Mozambique from the 1880s to 1975. It describes how missionaries learned to speak Xitshwa, what educational programs were established by the missionaries, what information about the Tshwa culture was transmitted to supporters at home and what Western cultural forms were transmitted to the Tshwa people. Through these discussions the author presents the missionary's role in transmitting cultural information from one group to another.
