Dr. C. E. B. Bonner began the huge task of preparing an index hepaticarum as a result of discussions at the International Congress of Botany in Paris in 1954. After completion and publication of seven parts of the work , with the eight being ready for printing, came his untimely death. His friends and colleagues then continued this demanding work with the subsequent publication of several further parts
