Jemenitisches Wörterbuch

From the linguistic point of view the Yemen is one of the least documented areas of the Arab world. This is especially true in the field of lexicography. The present work should be understood as the first step toward a lexicon of the Yemeni dialects. By and large it treats only the dialects of North Yemen, although a few South Yemeni words are included. The lexicon is organized in the following manner: Each Arabic entry begins a new line, as far as possible both the singular and plural of nouns, and both the perfect and imperfect of verbs, are given. The Arabic word is followed by its German and English translation (second and third column) The place designation in the fourth column indicates where the word is localized by the sources. However the user should bear in mind, that the majority of words in the lexicon are probably used throughout the Yemen or at least are not limited to the places mentioned.
