More about the book
The properties of materials are influenced by internal stresses in various ways. The calculation of these stresses has become part of advanced materials science, and the theory involves methods from mechanics, physics, and probability theory. The book deals both with special problems of stress concentrations and with randomly fluctuating stress fields in heterogeneous materials. This approach comprises also the theories of effective elastic constants, effective thermal expansion, and of elastic energy stored in residual stress fields. Several examples illustrate applications to polycrystalline, multiphase, and composite materials. Acidic paper. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.
