Stress revisited

More about the book

The concept of stress has evolved from one based on stimulus-induced organic responses to one emphasizing the experience of stress and the handling of stressful information. This two-volume work, consisting of contributions by prominent researchers in the field, represents a survey of stress research at the present time. Volume 2 focuses primarily on the systemic effects of stress. Following a discussion of the major mechanisms of stress, further articles describe in detail the systemic effects of stress on blood pressure, on the heart and on learning and memory. In addition, the effects of stress at the molecular and cellular level, particularly the induction of stress proteins, are elucidated. The final paper explores the role of stressful life events in affective disorders.
