Cycling of reduced gases in the hydrosphere

This book compiles reviewed submissions from 60 percent of the presentations at a Symposium on the Cycling of Reduced Gases in the Hydrosphere, part of the 24th Congress of the International Association of Theoretical and Applied Limnology (SIL) held in Munich, Germany, in August 1989. Focused on freshwater ecosystems, the Symposium addressed general ecological processes and the cycling of methane and hydrogen. Additional chapters on nitrogen and sulfur gas cycling were included, leading to a delay in publication but resulting in a comprehensive volume. The book covers significant reduced gases and their hydrospheric/biospheric cycling, providing valuable insights for the scientific community, particularly regarding their links to climate change. As the planet faces an uncertain future, understanding the formation, consumption processes, and cycling pathways of these gases is crucial. The editors hope this work will enhance comprehension of these important environmental issues.
