This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First International Conference on Audio- and Video-based Biometric Person Authentication, AVBPA'97, held in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, in March 1997. The 49 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected by the program committee for inclusion in the book; also included are four invited contributions.
