Ever since 1963, the Alemannic dialectologists from Germany, France, Liechtenstein and Switzerland have met at three-yearly intervals for conferences extending over a number of days. The 12th Conference was organized by the „Sprache in Südwestdeutschland“ („Language in South-West Germany“) permanent work-group in Tübingen. The overall subject was „Syntax and Stylistics of Everyday Language“ and the papers delivered at the symposium were all devoted to this topic. Alongside these there were work-in-progress reports from the dialectological institutes of the Alemannic region and from individual researchers. A new departure was the trial introduction of short papers on miscellaneous subjects, in which ideas, questions and suggestions for further research were put forward.
