More about the book

With the Munster City Library, Architekturburo Bolles-Wilson + Partner have created a revolutionary information centre for the twenty-first century. Information technology has begun to alter fundamentally the status of the printed word in contemporary society, and the library at Munster reflects this change. The library is divided into two distinct zones - the information building and the book building. Both symbolic and functional, these zones combine to make a unique ensemble, yet the whole responds sympathetically to the city-centre of Munster, creating a new linear urban space. Photography by Christian Richters shows the building's witty use of form and colour, as well as the dignity of the design appropriate to a place of public learning. Munster City Library thus provides both an intimate place of information, of quiet and education, and a new formal focus for the city of Munster as a whole.
