Rapid mass movement as a source of climatic evidence for the holocene

More about the book
Aiming at evaluation character and intensity of human impact on the cliamte system needs a differentiation between spontaneously occurring changes of climate viz. those caused by human activities. For doing so the Postglacial (Holocene) history of climate of those regions, in which surely no influence of man during the time investigated had to be taken into consideration, has to be analyzed equally well as those in which man became important. These comparisons work quite well, provided the overall human impact has been not too strong. In volume 19 of this series another approach is made, i. e. an analysis of the history, regional patterns, causes and timing of rapid mass movements all over Europe. This gives evidences of natural as well as of man-made environmental changes. It is attempted to differentiate between spontaneously occurring processes and those triggered by man.
