More about the book

In 1990, the University of Tübingen organized a symposium and lecture series to commemorate the 400th year of the death of the humanist and writer Nicodemus Frischlin. Frischlin was connected to the university between 1568 and 1580, since he studied and taught there during that time. He did however subsequently incur the enmity of his patrons and of the university due to his verbal provocations and mockery of his colleagues. The authors of these articles deal with orthodoxy, Renaissance culture and German Protestantism under Duke Ludwig von Württemberg (1568–1593). They describe institutions in which scholars received their education in the era of late humanism, among them the University of Tübingen and the book trade.
