More about the book

Johann Elias Bach (1705–1755), a cousin from Schweinfurt, lived with Johann Sebastian Bach from 1737 to 1742 and left behind a significant collection of draft letters. This collection includes not only his own business and family correspondence but also letters addressed to Johann Sebastian, Carl Philipp Emanuel, and Johann Ernst Bach. Currently housed in the Bach Archive in Leipzig, these drafts remain partially unexplored and serve as a crucial resource for understanding the daily life of the Cantor of St. Thomas and his family. Additionally, they hold value as important contemporary documents. The second, expanded edition features the first publication of three newly discovered letters from Johann Elias Bach, dated 1738 and 1740.
