More about the book

The International Conference on Machine Learning and Data Mining (MLDM) is the third biennial event organized by the Institute of Computer Vision and Applied Computer Sciences (IBaI) in Leipzig, following its inception in 1999. Initially a workshop, MLDM has evolved into a prominent conference that highlights machine learning and data mining research. This year, 75 papers were submitted, and after a rigorous review process, 33 were accepted for presentation. The proceedings encompass a diverse range of topics within machine learning and data mining. Two invited talks focus on learning in case-based reasoning and mining for structural data. The contributed papers are categorized into nine areas: support vector machines, pattern discovery, decision trees, clustering, classification and retrieval, case-based reasoning, Bayesian models and methods, association rules, and applications. Appreciation is extended to the reviewers for their professional work and to the German Science Foundation for supporting Eastern European researchers. Thanks are also due to the editorial staff at Springer Verlag, particularly Alfred Hofmann, for facilitating the publication of these proceedings in the LNAI series. Lastly, gratitude is expressed to all speakers and participants who contributed to the conference's success.
