More about the book
This article investigates the implications of Chomsky's (1998, 1999) recent assumption that there is no covert movement in the syntactic component. It centers on the principles that are responsible for checking of the Case feature of direct objects. The empirical domain of the investigation consists of the Genitive of Negation constructions in Polish. It is argued that the Polish constructions discussed in the paper cannot be immediately reconciled with Chomsky's assumptions.
