More about the book
Anniversaries remind us of our own identity and are a great motivtion for science and research. Former anniversaries of the city related to the year 1518 when Emperor Maximilian granted Klagenfurt the „Gabbrief“ (deed of donation) and the city became the possession of the country gentry; and to 1850 when Klagenfurt became autonomous. In the year 2010 Klagenfurt celebrated 90 years since the Carinthian „Abwehrkampf“ (military resistance against Yugoslav territorial claims), 80 years of city partnership with Wiesbaden and 65 years since the end of World War II. This was one of the main reasons for a fourth new edition of the brochure „Klagenfurt - From the Settlement on the Ford to a City of Knowledge“. The text has been extended to incluce further events of historical importance for the town.
