More about the book

This volume is dedicated to Professor Karl Fredga who has recently retired from his Chair in Genetics at the University of Uppsala and has contributed immensely to chromosome research, particularly evolutionary and population cytogenetics. The volume consists of 35 peer-reviewed research articles that largely reflect Professor Fredga's interests. There are articles on chromosomal and genomic evolution including application of comparative chromosome mapping, sex chromosome variation and evolution including analyses of sex determination in species with non-standard sex chromosomes, within-species chromosomal and mitochondrial variation including studies on hybrid zones and speciation. The articles are incredibly wide-ranging in taxonomic coverage: plants, insects, amphibia, birds, marsupials, horses, cattle, carnivores, lagomorphs, rodents, bats, shrews, primates and humans. The volume gives an up-to-date flavor of the best in current chromosome research together with anecdotal articles that look back over the last 50 years of cytogenetics.
