These sixteen papers derive from a workshop entitled `The transition to farming in southwest Asia' which was held in Groningen in 1998. The specialised papers cover a wide geographical area and cover evidence from the Pleistocene period to the Neolithic. Contributions include case studies as well as more theoretical or synthetic overviews of cultivation in Anatolia and its preservation in the archaeological record.
