More about the book
This gripping autobiography follows the author from his boyhood and youth in Vienna, where he survived two and a half years under Nazi rule, to the concentration camp of Buchenwald; it describes his eighty-three-day journey on a small ship with another thousand refugees; his survial of the sinking of the SS Patria; a seven-month's imprisonment by the British; four years in the British Army; the troubling and dangerous times of 1946-1948 in Palestine; and two years in the Israeli army. In 1958, after working with a water and oil drilling company for eight years, he moved to the United States and now resides in San Francisco.
