This book presents the refereed proceedings of the 3rd International IFIP-TC6 Networking Conference, Networking 2004. The conference encompasses the interests of various TC6 working groups, including 6.2, 6.3, and 6.8, and was organized into three Special Tracks: Networking Technologies, Services, and Protocols; Performance of Computer and Communication Networks; and Mobile and Wireless Communications. Beyond showcasing high-quality research in networking, the conference aimed to foster a unified view of the field and encourage interaction and exchange of ideas among related subcommunities. Many sessions and thematic sections in the book intersect across the Special Tracks, focusing on more generic or fundamental concepts. Networking 2004 garnered significant interest, receiving 539 submissions from 44 countries across all five continents, marking a remarkable increase in submissions compared to previous events—156% more than Networking 2000 and 71% more than Networking 2002. These figures indicate that Networking conferences are increasingly recognized as key global events in the field.
