Revision of the genera of the Areolatae, including the status of Timema and Agathemera (Insecta, Phasmatodea)

More about the book

"Phasmatodea are well known among winged insects as they include bizarre representatives such as Stick Insects and Walking Leaves. Various species are of considerable size. Both features explain that more than 200 species are kept and reared by amateurs. In contrast to this, Phasmatodea still remain insufficiently studied. For this reason, the more than 150 genera of the subtaxon Areolatae are revised and grouped in a phylogenetic system. Including reasoning, phylogenetic relationships are visualized in cladograms. As general characters of adult animals may be variable, special emphasis was given to egg structures. Representatives of almost all recent Areolatae and also Eocene fossil genera are figured, including egg structures. Detailed keys permit access to the considerable diversity of the taxon. A checklist of all hitherto described genera of the Phasmatodea, including their type species, is given as an appendix."
