European integration has gained global interest. Increasingly, European integration is perceived as a source of inspiration for other processes of regional cooperation and integration around the world. But the European integration experience cannot be used as a simple "role model". Yet, symmetric developments in other parts of the world are not necessary to prove the global relevance of European integration experiences. European integration does not serve as a static model that can be proliferated: Neither European sources nor its goals, neither its policies nor its institutions can be found with identical characteristics elsewhere in the world
