Evolutionary computation (EC) techniques are efficient, nature-inspired methods for planning and optimization, grounded in natural evolution and genetics principles. A growing number of researchers and practitioners are applying EC techniques across various domains. This book presents a curated selection of relevant EC applications alongside detailed examinations of techniques for effective implementation. All contributions were presented at EvoWorkshops 2005, which featured a diverse array of workshops focused on application-oriented aspects of EC. Since its inception in 1999, the EvoWorkshops format has successfully represented advances in EC applications. Over the years, it has evolved into a major event dedicated to the practical application of EC, distinguishing itself from larger conferences by concentrating solely on application aspects and bridging the gap between EC research and its application across various domains.
