More about the book

This companion volume to my previous work, published in 2004, offers a broad introduction and review of satellite remote sensing applications in oceanography. Over the five years of its preparation, I have been motivated by the excitement surrounding the discoveries in satellite oceanography worldwide. I aim for this book to inspire others to explore how space-based sensors provide new perspectives on oceanographic phenomena and enhance ocean science's role in addressing modern civilization's needs. My primary audience includes postgraduate and senior undergraduate students. Readers familiar with my earlier work will recognize its systematic approach to the diverse methods and technological advancements in satellite oceanography since the first dedicated ocean satellite launched in 1978. However, this subject transcends mere specialization in observational instrumentation and data processing. The recent availability of high-quality, processed satellite data has produced remarkable images of the ocean that convey their own narratives, highlighting the significance of satellite oceanography in understanding our planet's dynamics.
