Music as a bridge

More about the book

English music, particularly of the 19th and 20th centuries, has long been terra incognita on the Continent, and particularly in Germany, in academia as much as in the concert hall or opera house. However, recent years have seen an awakening of German interest in musical developments in Britain. At the same time British academics are opening their eyes to the history of bilateral relationships in music. The essays in this volume, originating in a conference at the Freien Universitat Berlin, offer new starting-points for discussion and an interdisciplinary exchange on the often fraught artistic and socio-political relationship between two European countries.
