More about the book

Published alongside an exhibition at DeSingel international arts centre, Antwerp (October - December 2005,) Konrad's photographs examine urban border zones - the periphery, urban infrastructure, construction sites, and anonymous buildings - remote from the typical urban scenarios. Independently of their functions and contexts, these buildings reveal an unspectacular uniformity of design whose vocabulary of form can be read as a code of modernism. Her photographs of numerous metropolises around the world testify that modernism is a global system
