Interactions of motion and form processing

Authors

More about the book

For a successful interaction with our environment it is necessary to gather various pieces of information about surrounding objects and to integrate them in order to form a coherent percept. Therefore, our visual system has to be able to coordinate independent attributes of objects – like their form or movement – into a single visual image. But where does this important integration process take place in the brain? The author Sarah Weigelt searched for the neuronal locus of motion and form interactions using neuroimaging techniques. By employing functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) several regions within the human cortex were revealed that process object and motion properties. Based on these empirical results the author argues that cross-talk between brain regions of the parietal and temporal cortex subserves the online integration of motion and form properties of objects. The book is of relevance for students and researchers in the field of vision science, biological psychology and cognitive neuroscience and all those generally interested in the mind and the brain.
