More about the book

Born in Croatia in 1973, David Maljkovic´ is one of the most intriguing artists of his generation. In his installations, comprising mostly video, but also photographs, collages and drawings, Maljkovic´ explores the chequered history of Eastern Europe, particularly the consequences of the region’s transformation from a Communist to a capitalist form of society. Such works as Again for Tomorrow and Scene for New Heritage feature deserted buildings and dilapidated monuments from the 1980s. Reflecting on these structures’ promise of a better tomorrow and simultaneously their failure to realize this potential, Maljkovic´ presents his interpretation of the future for former Soviet bloc countries. This new book, featuring essays, an interview with Maljkovic´ and a full biography and bibliography, provides a fascinating introduction to this controversial creative talent.
