More about the book

The term Picturesque has more than a colloquial relevance in England: It describes a category of aesthetics and a design-conceptual procedure that traces a tradition that continues to this day. Countless buildings, parks and gardens as well as urban planning over the last three centuries reinforce the impression that architecture and landscape in England are thought of as ‘interdependent coexistence’ to the point of diverse formal references and structural relationships between architecture and the natural form. The principle of Picturesque acts as a generic and connecting force. Pamphlet 9 attempts to trace the development lines of Picturesque on the basis of individual projects, thereby also manifesting the design potential.
