More about the book
The idea for this book emerged from the workshop “Model order reduction, coupled problems and optimization” at the Lorentz Center in Leiden from September 19–23, 2005. During discussions, participants recognized the need for a comprehensive resource on model order reduction that covers foundational concepts and relevant techniques, beneficial for students, young researchers, and seasoned experts alike. It was noted that existing theories on model order reduction are dispersed across numerous papers, complicating the search for a solid starting point. Many speakers at the workshop expressed their willingness to contribute to this book. The book aims to achieve three main objectives: first, to outline the fundamentals of model order reduction; second, to present both general and specialized techniques for linear and nonlinear systems, incorporating various related numerical methods; and third, to explore the application of these techniques in practical scenarios and current research trends. The organization of the book reflects these goals, with Part I explaining the rationale behind model order reduction and providing an overview of the most common methods.
