Interactive systems

More about the book

The modern world offers numerous possibilities for interacting with computers through advanced web applications, handheld devices, and large displays. Developers of interactive systems face significant challenges in designing applications that leverage these new technologies and in implementing their designs effectively. The 15th annual workshop, held at Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada, from July 16–18, 2008, focused on empowering designers and implementers to harness the capabilities of modern interaction devices. This book compiles the best submissions from the workshop, featuring 17 full papers, 10 late-breaking reports, and two demonstrations. Keynote speakers included Judy Brown from Carleton University and Randy Ellis from Queen’s University. The first day centered on user interface evaluation and specification, emphasizing task models to capture intended functionality. The second day explored techniques for modeling user interfaces, especially for mobile and ubiquitous applications, alongside advanced implementation strategies. The final day addressed the architecture of interactive systems while revisiting evaluation and specification themes. This collection reflects the workshop's commitment to advancing the field of interactive systems design and implementation.
