The effects of ageing workforces ́on international organizations

Authors

More about the book

With ageing work populations around the world, the presence of older workers will become more common in organizations. Based on dropping fertility rates and developed health systems, fewer young people and more elderly people are expected to have a longer work life span. This phenomenon affects societies, governments and organizations alike. My book reveals effects of ageing workforces on organizations and gives an overview of interesting aspects related to work place developments within organizations and to the labour market as a whole. It is a top down consideration of the effects of ageing workforces in organizations and starts with a global overview of demographic changes and is followed by diversity and its definition, as well as research approaches in this area. The theme “ageing workforce (s)” is dealt with in a separate chapter and is thoroughly considered in selected countries and companies. The focus is on the service industry, which seems to be most affected by the phenomenon. Case studies round off the understanding of an ageing workforce and its consequences for companies. Results and findings reveal current developments of ageing workforces in organizations and countries selected. The book ends with appropriate conclusions and recommendations for organizations and human resource management (HRM). Enjoy reading!
