Development - Organization – Interculturalism. Three words entitle the present collection of articles in honor of Michael Fremerey on the occasion of his retirement from the academic staff of the University of Kassel (Germany). Together they may reflect the field of Michael Fremerey’s professional activities which do not only include academic teaching and research at different universities, but also experience as the director of an NGO in Singapore and Indonesia. The idea of development advocated by Michael Fremerey has never been congruent with a mere technical understanding and by no means with a certain version of the modernization theory that since the sixties and seventies of the twentieth century had exerted eminent influence on many international agencies.
