More about the book

Conservation agriculture is often promoted to address land degradation problem. However the key question is; can conservation agriculture restore the chemical and biodiversity? Does the resotation translate into meaningful for the participating households?. This book answers these questions with emperical data from eastern Uganda. Imperical data indicate that there is an improvement in the soil biodiversity in soil cover and slashed plots as indicated by a diversity of weed population. There are also improvements in soil properties in terms of organic matter and soil pH. There were no improvements in Nitrogen availability. On the socioeconmic aspects improvements were recorded on the ownership and quality of assets, food supply, household savings and value of marketing. As a recommendtion, the author proposes scaling out the benefits of conservation agriculture to other areas experiencing degradation and reduced fallow periods.
