More about the book
This book summarizes the basic and applied research conducted at various institutions within the Softwarepark Hagenberg in Austria. Initiated in 1987 by Bruno Buchberger with just 15 coworkers in the Research Institute for Symbolic Computation (RISC), the Softwarepark was established at the request of the Upper Austrian Government to stimulate scientific, technological, and economic growth in the region and beyond. As of 2009, the Softwarepark has expanded to over 1000 R&D employees and 1300 students across six research institutions, 40 companies, and 20 academic programs at bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD levels. The primary goal is to drive innovation in software technology, emphasizing that sustainable progress relies on prioritizing research—both basic and applied. This book details the achievements in research across the Softwarepark and outlines future research visions. Additionally, Buchberger highlights the importance of the "magic triangle," which represents the essential collaboration between research, academic education, and business applications, as a key to the park's success.
