Rob Krier, a unique urban-planning artist among Germany’s architects, has completed a significant urban project in his home country of Luxembourg after 30 years. This endeavor is a true 'family project,' with his brother Léon contributing to the masterplan for the site near their parental home, fulfilling Krier’s 'youthful dream.' His son-in-law, Christoph Kohl, and distant relative, architect Jean Herr, also played key roles in the project. The concept transcends Luxembourg, serving as a manifesto for classical European urban architecture. Instead of a high-rise, an entire quarter has been developed, featuring public roads, lanes, and squares with eight buildings housing various judicial departments. The design incorporates small-sized units and traditional plasterwork façades, enhancing the quarter’s vitality and addressing the complexities of integrating major administration complexes into existing urban fabric. The Kriers demonstrate that top-quality architecture can meet modern demands for equipment, cost-effectiveness, energy efficiency, and public accessibility.
