More about the book

Technical Reports are often crafted according to specific standards and practical experiences, yet many engineers lack familiarity with these guidelines. While numerous resources provide general writing advice, this book focuses specifically on Technical Reports, catering to engineers, natural scientists, computer scientists, and more. It builds on the 6th edition published in 2008 by Vieweg in German and is now available in English from Springer. The authors, experienced educators from the University of Applied Sciences Hannover, have gathered insights from years of teaching students how to write reports, noting both effective and ineffective examples from design reports, lab work, and theses. Prof. Dr. Lutz Hering has a background with VOLKSWAGEN and DAIMLER before transitioning to academia, where he taught Technical Drawing, Construction and Design, CAD, and Materials Science until 2000. Dr. Heike Hering brings nine years of experience as a Technical Writer, having developed numerous CAD manuals in both German and English. Currently, she works at TÜV NORD Akademie, overseeing E-Learning projects, technical documentation, and software training, while also supervising students in their thesis writing.
