This special issue of Folia Phoniatrica et Logopaedica contains contributions representing a diverse set of perspectives on current theoretical and clinical aspects of child and adult motor speech disorders. Topics covered include dysarthria associated with Friedreich’s ataxia, Parkinson’s disease and apraxia of speech. Theoretical considerations concerning the diagnostic classification of dysarthria and the use of a computational neural model of speech motor symptoms are discussed. Further articles highlight the importance of dysarthria research in languages other than English to test theoretical models of dysarthric speech.
