More about the book
This study deals with the filmic self-representation of Native Americans. It focuses on five contemporary features directed by indigenes and deconstructs the ways in which they respond to the legacy of the Hollywood Indian. By telling their own cinematic stories, Native Americans have taken up the battle against the century-old one-dimensional characterizations of America's original peoples in the mainstream culture. These indigenous filmmakers highlight the variety and complexity of modern Native America.
