As multilingual interactions increase, there is a pressing need for effective services that support communication across languages. The Language Grid initiative aims to create an infrastructure enabling users to develop composite language services for intercultural collaboration, facilitating customized multilingual environments to overcome local language barriers. Key stakeholders include language resource providers, service users, and grid operators. This book features 18 chapters organized into six parts, summarizing research and development activities related to the Language Grid. Part I outlines the framework of the Language Grid, emphasizing service-oriented collective intelligence that connects providers, users, and operators. It introduces two software types: service grid server software and the Language Grid Toolbox, both available under open source licenses. Part II discusses technologies for service workflows that integrate atomic language services. Part III focuses on research concerning the sharing and utilization of these services.
