Dieser interdisziplinäre Sammelband bietet neue Perspektiven zur Untersuchung der Visualkultur in der Ostseeregion im 15. und 16. Jahrhundert. Das künstlerische Schaffen von Bernt Notke und seinen Zeitgenossen wird in einen breiten historischen, sozialen, räumlichen und liturgischen Kontext gesetzt. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit wird den verschiedenen Funktionen von Bildern, den (Selbst-)Repräsentationen der Stifter und den Beziehungen zwischen Bild und Heiligenkult gewidmet. This interdisciplinary collection of articles offers new perspectives on the study of the visual culture of the Baltic Sea region in the 15th and the early 16th centuries. The artistic production of Bernt Notke and other artists of that period is set in a broad historical, social, spatial and liturgical context. Special attention is paid to the various functions of images, the (self-)representation of patrons, and the interrelation between images and saints’ cults.
