More about the book

This two-year international cooperation project, initiated by the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development’s Task Force, focuses on ecosystem services and management in China. It includes case studies, scenario analysis, and stakeholder consultations centered on the country’s forest, grassland, and wetland ecosystems, evaluating the economic and social benefits of sustainable management practices. The project highlights effective ecosystem management strategies drawn from both Chinese and international experiences, advocating for the integration of ecosystem services into decision-making processes. In November 2010, the Task Force presented five strategic policy proposals aimed at implementing sustainable management practices for Chinese ecosystems. These proposals received strong support from senior decision-makers and have been adopted by national government agencies. This work serves as a vital reference for researchers and professionals in related fields. Contributing authors include notable experts such as Professor Yiyu Chen, former president of the National Natural Science Foundation of China; Professor Beate Jessel, president of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation in Germany; and Dr. Jamie Pittock, a Senior Lecturer at the Australian National University, among others.
