More about the book
Memory of Trees is a dark and startling reminder of an all too often forgotten genocide committed against Armenians in the early 1900s by the once powerful Ottoman Empire. Since 2007, Kathryn Cook travelled between Turkey and Armenia and on to Syria, Lebanon and Israel unearthing the shameful truth whilst giving a voice to its survivors and legacy. The resulting collection of images emphasise the emotional tonality of the story rather than documenting specific events, and ensure this overlooked genocide finally finds a voice and some sense of closure.
