Value-oriented imagery

More about the book

This qualitative, interpretive study investigates the applicability of a new salutogenic imagery approach, Value-Oriented Imagery (WIM®), in multicultural contexts outside Europe. It explores whether specific cultural “dialects” exist within the universal inner picture language of individuals from non-European backgrounds. Conducted in Johannesburg with 18 participants from African South African, Asian South African, and European South African cultures, the study took place in 2011 and 2012. Results were analyzed and compared with WIM® experiences from Germany, followed by discussions in expert interviews with Uwe Boeschemeyer, Stephan Peeck, and Andreas Boeschemeyer. The findings indicate that Value-Oriented Imagery offers a valuable contribution to multicultural therapy and counseling in South Africa. Only minor cultural variations were noted among participants, such as a greater presence of water imagery, particularly waterfalls, and more spontaneous encounters with the Healthy Inner Child. Overall, the study suggests that Value-Oriented Imagery has the potential to enhance therapeutic practices across diverse cultural settings.
