More about the book

Architects and building designers are increasingly focused on sustainability, energy, and resource efficiency, which are now key factors in building quality. It is essential to incorporate a sensitive awareness of location into architectural design to enhance identification with structures and their functionality. The research project Young Cities explored this approach to create contemporary urban design and architecture in semi-arid regions of Iran. The goal was to develop a vibrant city on Tehran's outskirts, providing residential spaces, infrastructure, and public facilities for a rapidly growing population. A central element of this integrative project is the LIFEcenter, designed as a vocational training facility that embodies sustainability, energy efficiency, and social and cultural considerations. Serving as a pilot project, it aims to disseminate the research findings over time. This handbook serves as a crucial reference for climate-adapted architecture and offers ideas for creating an integrative hybrid building complex for vocational training, seminars, and exhibitions. It reflects the research, design, planning steps, and findings, covering the necessity of energy-efficient architecture, research results on energy efficiency, design and planning steps, optimization strategies, and documentation of the LIFEcenter project.
