More about the book

Throughout the history of art, the studio has been the traditional place in whichartworks were produced and subsequently released into the world as transportableobjects. Today, with changing notions of the studio as a site for artisticproduction, such fixed orders no longer exist. In this context, the function ofthe studio as a place of contemplation, planning, experimentation and makinghas become more relative, even allegorical. Examining themes of studio andproduction in contemporary art, this volume considers ways that its processesand places the shadows of art, to borrow Barthes phrase are reflected inthe work itself. Featuring 20 artists, including Pave Althammer, Tacita Dean,Katharina Grosse, Rita McBride, Mai-Thu Perret, Sarah Rossiter, Giorgio Sadotti,Paul Sietsema, Andrea Zittel and Artur Z mijewski. Texts by Roman Kurzmeyer,Ines Ru ttinger and Eva Schmidt.
