More about the book

This report of the District Archaeology at Dingolfing-Landau contains four papers. Carmen Keßler reports on a multi-cultural settlement site at Mamming-Hochfeld with evidence of the Münchshöfen, Altheim and Funnel Beaker Cultures. As to features there were post houses, sunken-featured buildings, ovens, slit pits, storage pits, and silos, as regards finds there were pottery, silices, and animal bones / deposits. Christian Pscheidl’s contribution deals with prehistoric settlement finds at Dingolfing-Rotkreuzparkplatz with remains of the Middle Neolithic, the Urnfield and Hallstatt Periods, amongst them an enclosed farmstead [“Herrenhof”], a considerable amount of pottery, and some metal and stone objects. The third part was written by Uta von Freeden and treats the Late Merovingian cemetery at Mamming-Weißes Kreuz which contained 23 graves, amongst them several ones with a timber lining and partly outstanding grave goods. Last but not least the editor himself presents a rubbish pit at a former inn at Unterhollerau near Dingolfing. It contained pottery, glass bottles, tin buckets as well as pottery sculptures of a roe deer and two garden gnomes of around A. D. 1900.
