More about the book

The CRITIQUE AND CRISIS programme series, conducted from 2012 to 2015, explored the foundations of democratic order within the context of European crisis philosophy. It examined the relevance of the principles of liberté, égalité, and fraternité to Europe’s contemporary identity through the lens of artists. The series highlighted how crises can dismantle existing structures and pave the way for new ones, prompting a reevaluation of preconceived notions and biases. A key essay by Greek economist and philosopher Georgios Papadopoulos addressed the critical potential of art and the role of artists in ongoing crises. Additionally, a thought-provoking text by Hungarian philosopher Zsolt Pálfalusi proposed a new, performative role for philosophy, equipping individuals to navigate crisis situations. Project manager Kata Krasznahorkai presented a lecture on skepticism towards the European Idea at a conference organized by the German Historical Museum and Collegium Hungaricum Berlin in September 2014. The series encouraged critical inquiries into the nature of crises and their implications. Featured artists included Bankleer, Libia Castro/Ólaffur Ólafsson, Jakup Ferri, Ion Grigorescu, and many others, contributing diverse perspectives to the discourse.
